Match report Ladies win the hard way!
A strong looking Copdock Ladies side won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny morning in Bury St Edmunds, looking to add to some recent impressive scores Olivia and Georgia set about the Bury attack. Run rate was never an issue, however regular wickets did give cause for concern, Georgia, Emily, Megan, Mai and Anna all falling cheaply as Copdock approached 100 runs. Oliva had also departed for a solid 24. Hannah Vickers looked untroubled for an impressive 73no and was well supported by Beth Quinton 11no as Copdock closed their innings 155-6.
Beth returning from a knee injury that had seen her miss a few games opened the bowling and finished 11-1 from her 4 overs, a simple caught and bowled in the first over setting the ladies on their way. This wicket bought Samuels to the crease, who promptly set about the Copdock attack, her 47 was ended by young Chloe Williams having her caught behind down the leg side. The wicket of Samuels saw Burys’ chances disappear as the remaining batters seemed content to see out the innings. The unfamiliar sight of cheap dismissals, dropped catches, missed run outs and lack of energy in the field did tarnish what was a good win. However if we can play below par and still win by 49 runs we must take the positives and move forwards.
Yesterday also saw us say goodbye to Megan Kelland, Megan has enjoyed a successful and dedicated spell with us during her time in Suffolk, thank you Megan and we all hope to see you soon!
Thursday sees our long awaited rearranged fixture against Mistley. Thanks to Mistley for rearranging.
