Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Tigers (Girls U13 - Hardball) v Melton U13 Girls on Thu 21 May 2015 at 6.00pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won By 12 Runs

Match report The girls appeared very keen to follow their weekend result with victory against Melton on a lovely Thursday evening at Copdock.

Frankie and Carrie returned to the team following their unavailability and it was great to see them back.

Having lost the toss and been put in to bat the girls this time faced the different challenge of setting a competitive score rather than being able to manage a run chase as they did successfully last time out.

So with a positive run scoring mentality in mind Holly and Felita opened the batting. However Holly was unfortunate to lose her wicket in the first over, receiving a very deceptive Melton delivery which clipped leg stump.

Beth joined Felita in the middle to resume their successful partnership from the weekend and indeed they batted well together again with some good running between the wickets. A partnership of 38 was broken however when a second run was called on a misfield which resulted in Felita being narrowly run out.

Amelie joined Beth in the middle and put together a 13 run partnership before she suffered the same fate as Felita and was run out.

So two quick wickets had set the nerves on the boundary but Emma took to the middle in defiant mood and indeed remained not out through the innings on 10.

By this time Beth had received her ovation for retiring unbeaten on 30 which included 5 glorious boundaries, a wonderful innings which Beth seemed to enjoy!

Emma and Katie looked set to see the innings through between them before Katie was bowled with 2 deliveries remaining. Frankie came in to face the remaining deliveries and the team was applauded off having posted a score of 86.

So the girls took to the field looking to defend their total, Melton requiring a run rate of under 6 a over and the first 4 overs were delivered magnificently conceding only 9 runs and Beth bowling the Melton number 2.

However, runs began to flow with Melton’s strong opening bat hitting boundaries with regularity and their 2nd wicket partnership had put on a stand of 46 before Emma had the opener caught smartly by Frankie. After 10 overs the game had look dead and buried but positive batting and a few wide deliveries had given Melton a glimmer of hope.

However, the moment of the match went some way to deciding the result when off the bowling of Beth the Melton number 3 creamed a square cut airborne towards the boundary for a certain 4 when Emma amazingly managed to get a hand to the ball, palming it upwards and having the presence of mind to remain calm and remarkably take the catch.

This seemed to galvanise the girls to see the game home and the delight was clear to see, the team spirit and togetherness a joy to see!
