Match report The Jaguars kicked off their Vitality T20 campaign in style with a thumping 205 run victory over Thriplow on Monday. Put into bat, the girls scored quickly and consistently with captain and opener Lilia Cook making a rapid 51 before falling after 35 balls. Birthday girl Livvy Swallow hit 26 not out off just 17 balls including five boundaries, and Freya Hargreave chipped in with a cameo 6. But the star of the show was unquestionably Gracie Brunt who smashed her maiden century from 60 balls, scoring two from the last ball of the innings to finish 100 not out. Congratulations Gracie!
With a daunting 233 needed for victory an inexperienced Thriplow side had to come out swinging, but a sensational catch at cover by Grace John off Isla Staines sent their opener back first ball to set the tone. Emma Cable then took 2 for 3 and the field did the rest with no fewer than four run outs. Florrie Kemp kept it very tidy behind the wicket so there was nowhere for Thriplow to go and they finished on 27 all out.
The girls will no doubt meet stiffer opposition in the rounds ahead, but this was a stand-out team performance that bodes well for their chances to go deep in the competition. The next round will be away to City of Cambridge on 16th June.
