Match report Damp Squib !!

A week of hectic behind the scenes activity, just to get 11 players onto the pitch ended in disappointment for all concerned as the 2nd XIs game vs Hadleigh 2nds was abandoned after just under 6 overs of play.

Pre match, the warm up went well, although the chairman managed to skilfully sidestep his involvement in anything too strenuous by managing to injure himself when catching a ball thrown gently to him by LOCOGs Ted Baker !
The Captain even managed to win the toss ensuring the opposition were asked to bat first.

Then the fun started ! Ethan Wright (Wright Wright), opened the bowling and took an instant dislike to both the Hadleigh opener and stand in wicket keeper, Seb Coe lookalike, Baker, sending down two beamers and spraying the ball (very) wide of both off and leg stump ! To be fair to Ethan, he was short of match practice and after pole axeing the batter with his second beamer, he reverted to a more conventional mode of delivery - a big relief to all concerned.
Underwood was also equally inaccurate in his first over and after 2 overs Hadleigh were 22/0! After that the bowling improved dramatically; we managed to nip out a wicket and when the rain ended play, Hadleigh had moved on to 25/1.

So we lose ground on the divisions early pacemakers but we are still unbeaten - we now look forward to the local derby against near neighbours, Ipswich next Saturday.
