Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI v Woolpit on Sat 17 Apr 2010 at 1.00pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 85 runs

Match report The season started with the champions at home to promoted Woolpit. Copdock won the toss and batted first on a glorious sunny saturday. There were debuts for James Kingston and Tom Palmer. Copdock got of to a decent start with Thomas and Kingston putting on 65 before Kingston was caught behind for a well crafted 22. That meant Pidge came in having elevated himself to number 3. He put on 40 with Huge before hugh was stumped for an excellent 64. That brought Nel to the crease and they smashed it and put on 150 in next to no time! Pidge was caught at long on with a few overs to go. Raj came in ahead of nose and scored a rapid 20 not out. the star of the copdock show was AD Nel. He score 119. His hundred coming from 66 balls. He went from 50 - 100 in 20 balls. Six of which were from 94 to 100. the figures, although impressive, don't do his batting justice. He simple smashed every ball he face to the boundary. All proper cricket shots, and incredibly impressive batting. 305-4 was a superb start for the boys.

Woolpit had it all to do... And with their pro at the crease they would always have a sniff. He started brightly... and flicked and smashed Nose for regular boundaries. although, to be fair, I'm not sure both Nose and TP's figures actually do their bowling justice either... They found it hard to bowl at a good player in fine form on a road! Nose finally bowled a straight bowl and was rewarded with a LBW. Woolpit satyed up with the required rate, but over time both Pidge and Eek, drew things back for Copdock. Woolpit, closed up shop and gave up, when well placed. They finished 85 short and never even tried to chase the score needed. In a hard league, as a promoted club, you need to take every chance you get. They didn't and will need to learn from it! A very strange match ended with Woolpit 220-2! Odd... doesn't quite explain what happened!!! A win for Copdock.... but didn't really feel that way!

The future's bright, the future's Copdock!
