Match report Copdock Vs Frinton

Well the black caps travelled to the Frinton Bowl on Saturday for a first Vs third showdown and they were ready to knock another side out of the title race on a glorious day for cricket. Burch drove and he again chose a perfect route, faultless display of driving!!

Copdock were missing Gravell, injured playing conkers during the week. This after he took a week off to look at holiday houses in Cornwall with his in-laws…clearly the boy needs to understand the word commitment and realise the effort everyone else has put in to get the team to where they are! Ricey took his place in the side, having cut short his hand modelling shoot at the NEC.

Hawkey was back in the fold to score and even brought his wife along and let her use the family chair! In fact it was a record turnout for the black caps at an away game as Chester and the Jervis crew arrived to support Jerv in the fight he tried to start! ( more on that later ).

Eek won the toss and decided to bat first, Copdock had a long batting line up with Rice at 9 and Eek at ten! Copdock got off to the best possible start as “ Teeth “ Thomas was out in the first over, replicating his hero Sharpe, going back to a lenth ball and LBW for a duck… We all giggled as he slopped back to the pavilion, shaking his head! He even looked like Reuben, although the glare from his teeth gave it away!

Jerv then catapulted Bracewell over his head for six…. Beautiful, just beautiful and he put on 60 with Ben in just under 12 overs. Jerv played a ramp over the slips to further wind up the quick bowler, before being caught at mid wicket, whilst the crowd shouted as he was about to play his shot…. Jerv was incensed and stormed round the boundary before taking his pads off! Burch and Nose went with him to offer sage advice to calm the situation. Jerv was still furious half an hour later and called for reinforcements, his whole family arrived!!

Pidge joined 1 of 1 and they put on 106 quickly before Chris was fingered by Stucky for 48 and adjudged LBW ( Stucky was heard gloating about it in the bar ). When Ben was next out for 72 the wheels were slowly coming off. It took some great late hitting from the Girlfriend stealing, scared Jenkin, including a massive six over mid wicket off the bowling of Bracewell to take the score to a half decent 230. May I add that Burchy got a golden!! Great! So the innings finished with the Black caps all out off the final ball for 230! Probably 35 short off where they should have been, but with the distraction of Jerv’s family spoiling for a fight, not a bad effort!

Tea was excellent, the cheese and onion sandwiches a nice touch! Ice in the orange another good call!

So the black caps started with Nose and Ben. Ben chose ends again and decided to take down hill with the wind! After 10 overs, although the odd ball swung, Frinton had got off to a decent start at 47 for none. Eek turned to the spinners and himself and Pidge did a decent job. Pidge bowled 16 very tight overs for only 38 runs and did get his nemesis out for his only success.

Meanwhile, at the other end, Eek’s trench clearing IED’s ( improvised explosive devises ) were causing havoc. Box man France taking 3 sharp catches at straight midwicket and Eek took wickets with regular monotony as Frinton found themselves 106 for six. Eek finished with 5-55.

Frinton put on 50 for the seventh wicket and eek had to turn to pace again as overs were running out and 20 points needed to be taken, also Frinton had a small sniff of victory.

Ben and Nose entered the fray. Nose mixed things up cleverly and shot through the tail in 14 balls. Finishing with flattering figures of 4-27.

Frinton we all out with one ball left for 177. Copdock win by 53 runs.

So from this week we can surmise:-

1) Hugh Thomas can’t open. 0.
2) Ben should bowl into the wind.
3) Chris is too scared to get a ton.
4) Jenko loves it quick.
5) Jervis is a god!
6) Ben could break the league record. If he’d open.
7) Nose bowls too quick for tailenders.
8) Eek bowls SLOW !
9) We’re pretty good!
10) It’s all in our own hands
11) Gravell let us down!

So onto the massive game of Coggeshall on Saturday… We owe them one and if Exning slip up and we win..it’s all over!

The future’s bright, the future’s Copdock
