Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Wivenhoe Wither Under Nel Onslaught!!

This week Flopdock Chargers welcomed the mighty Hoe to the Copdock Oval. The Chargers we missing Jenko, Jervis and the young choir boy Gravell. Also with Jonny Rice dropping out, after picking up a nasty rash from his bed of straw, The Cat was drafted in as a late replacement.

After the Oldies went undefeated in the warm up for the 4th week in a row, Eek won the toss and Flopdock would bowl first, in warm, if not overcast conditions, on a dampish wicket.
( For your information, Thomas was the proud wearer of the orange hat ).

Copdock went into the game with only two seamers and they opened up and did a good job. Ben picked up and early wicket, when Eek took a sharp slip catch and Nose bowled a couple of maidens ( no lie ) and kept it tight. After 18 overs the score was only 29.

Eek had a long think about things and wanted to make a game of it… So off came the openers and on came the spinners…… They went at 5 an over as The Mighty Wiv’s Sri Lonkon hockey shotted it around and made 96. Phillips also batted really well, laying to rest the demons of being hit on the head by Nose some 5 years before. He made 63 and the Wiv looked set for a big score.

Ben came back and picked up 4 more wickets and Nose 2 as Wiv folded slightly, there last 11 overs of their innings they only scored 37 for the loss of 6 wickets. They set Flopdock 232 to win from their 50 overs.

Teeth and Ian Sword opened up for the Chargers and scored freely before Sword was strangled down the leg side. Teeth moved on to 30 before getting a nose bleed and gave up!

At Drink Flopdock were well placed with 115 needed from 25 overs with 8 wickets left… And Run machine France in with Pidge!!!!

Pidge and Ben scratched around for 15 overs and then both got out, in an attempt to make the game tight again….. They managed it as Copdock now needed to score at 8 an over from the last 13 overs with Nose and Nelly in. Ben did score another 47 and looked superb again!!

The rate rapidly rose and Nose perished. Reuben and Nelly were at the crease and the rate was 11 an over. This continued to increase and with 4 overs to go Flopdock were out of it and needed 48 to win.

Nelly snapped…. And in a bloodbath of monstrous slashing, not seen since the Impala Hippo slaughter of ’93, He smashed it everywhere….. He went from 46 to 87 in 11 scoring shots….. And amazingly Copdock came home with an over to spare…. Reuben played his part and scored a quickfire 20 not out…. Nelly finished not out on 87 and I can honestly say I’ve never seen hitting like it…. All in the V and one over extra cover, that is still making my legs shake as I’m writing this!!

If you were not there… you missed out on some Copdock History…. What a game… What a Man…. I love him, we all do….. AD Nel !!!

Copdock now have control of their own destiny this season. They need to win a few more games to tie things up…..

They do have a testing run of games coming up as they are to play every team from 2nd to 9th in the league over the final 7 weeks of the season…….but…..

The future’s bright, the future’s Copdock
