Playing on the artificial surface for the first time this season in a competitive match Copdock elected to bat first.
With a weakened line-up due to holiday commitments a change to the batting order enabled Felix and Luke to open. With stunning control Felix quickly reached 33 and again retired. Luke finding some early deliveries hard to read settled and went on to play a controlled innings of 34 and again retirement beckoned.
Chris Wildig batting at nr 3 reached 6 before being caught supported by Dagan who reached a credible 11 before being trapped LBW on his debut for the under 13’s.
Toby and Ben battled well restoring some balance and reached 25 and 19 respectively with Joe being bowled for 2.
Closing the batting Tom reached 5 and Brendan 4 both not out.
An impressive total of 159 for 6 was achieved and really laid down a challenge to Kesgrave to chase.
Kesgrave opened well with the run rate at 8 an over a close game seemed on the cards with both opening batsmen retiring. From that point no real resistance was met and our bowlers took command. Jack bowling excellently to finish on 4 for 14 and narrowly missing out on a deserved hat trick, supported by Toby and tom both collecting 2 wickets and Ben 1. Our fielding on occasions was lacking with unnecessary runs leaked together with 2 dropped catches. More notably our field placing was at times questionable, however all this was not enough and Kesgrave could only manage 132 for 9 off 20 over’s.
A victory for Copdock by 17 runs and securing a place in the league final!
