Suffolk Cup & League Double Header
With a lot at stake on this double header the team’s converged on a fine evening at Copdock, once again Rick had prepared the ground superbly and all was set for a dramatic night of cricket. With this being the last scheduled league encounter before the play off’s and the semi final of the cup tension was understandably high.
Winning the toss, the Woolpit captain decided to bat and it was for us to set about containing our main rival within the league.
Opening the bowling Toby and Tom bowled well containing the score to just 22 off 4 over’s. Our first wicket came at change of bowling and Ben pulled off a well timed caught and bowled to start the flow of wickets. A well disciplined spell of bowling and good fielding saw 5 wickets taken and 2 run outs to reduce Woolpit to 96 for 7 off a full 20 over’s.
Copdock came into bat with its strongest line up this season; expectations were high and all seemed well with 28 being added for the loss of Jamie. Felix continued his excellent batting form reaching 31 before retiring. With the score on 73 for 4 the target of 97 seemed within our reach, and then came the 13 over and conceding 3 wickets left nerves slightly frayed.
It was all left to Archie and Ben to steer the side home with well taken runs that showed great patience under the pressure that was placed upon them.
Closing the match on 97 for 8 a very tense game came to an end. This team have proved their resilience over the season and a well deserved place in the final of the Suffolk Cup now awaits and a semi final spot in the league.
Learning points on the night seems to be keeping the ball on the ground, with a high number of our players being caught it demonstrate the need to play more accurate strokes and Hugh will be fine tuning this process in the run up to the finals.
