Match report Bury U13 V Copdock U13
Ipswich and District League
6 May 2008
On a fine evening enjoying unblemished sunshine the 2008 season began away to Bury at the Victory ground. Felix Ward, discharging the duties of captain duly squared up with the opposing captain to decide the order of play following the traditional toss of a coin. With Bury correctly predicting the outcome, their decision to field was communicated to all.
With their field set deep our opening partnership of Jamie and Chris made their way to the crease. What followed was a credible partnership developing with Jamie picking off shots to all areas of the ground picking up boundaries and valuable runs. Chris, batting left handed continued to cause problems picking up a total of 9 before losing his wicket to a catch, caught behind.
Jamie continuing a fine batting display now supported by Brendan batted on before seeing his stumps knocked over by a straight delivery just 4 runs short of a maximum 30. Brendan continued the run haul and added a fine 16 before being caught.
Ollie playing a supporting role was joined by Will, given permission to express himself with diminishing over’s left, Will raced to an unbeaten 31. A fine display of batting incorporating a wide range of strokes was cut short in accordance with the rules of the game and retirement beckoned. Ollie, achieving 10 runs eventually succumbed clean bowed.
With the exception of 2 more added runs from the tail our innings was at a close with a superb score of 126 posted.
Bury, looking weary made their way out to the crease to start their run chase. From the start it looked beyond them. Our bowlers set about their task methodically and supported by some excellent fielding restricted the opposition from ever looking comfortable.
A fine display of length and line bowling from Toby saw just 5 runs taken off his 4 over’s, and wickets fell from the hands of Tom, Ben and Jack picking up 2 from a good spell.
By the end of the 20th over Bury had only managed to accrue 96 runs, a total that never threatened.
The match concluded it was good to see all that had participated looking happy and excited with attentions drawn to our next encounter with high expectations.
General points of note on the night, our lads played with pride and looked every inch a cricketing side with good field placement and cricket etiquette on display. This was a real credit to the club and the coaching they receive.
Points to work on from the night included picking up those single runs, communication between the batsman and the run seepage from wide deliveries. Tom will be communicating with Hugh and these elements can be expected to be tweaked in the weeks ahead.
Finally it was a pleasure to see the team get off to the winning start we all wanted and confidence is now high for the forthcoming season.
Well done to all those involved, you played as a team and as a result got the rewards that team play bring in cricket.
