Match report A fully committed effort by a really ‘together’ U11 side. After winning the toss and electing to bat on a very warm afternoon, George and William set about building the foundations of a solid innings. The opening batsmen and Henry saw off the opening bowling pair patiently. William looked comfortable but an outstanding flying catch at point brought his innings to a premature close. Arthur and Hugo enjoyed some time at the crease together adding runs along the way and frustrating the bowlers. Both playing some fine shots and running well between the wickets. Finnan top scored with 28 in a flash of good shots. Sankalp and Max came in at the end to face the opening bowling pair again but despite the strength of the attack, we were 141 for 4 after 18 overs.

Some really good calling and decision making against a good bowling attack and some lovely fielding from the U13B. We also managed to force a few over throws in the final overs.

In the field, we bowled well, supported one another well and again, made some good decisions as to when to attack the stumps or not. One excellent stumping and two run outs demonstrated our commitment in the field. George conceded only 5b compared with 18b from his opposite number. We pitched the ball up, despite the surface showing considerable bounce, and came off the edge several times. Don’t be disheartened by the excellent drives the opposition played – just a slight movement off the seam or swing could have made all the difference. In my mind, a well-executed bowling plan.

The biggest positive for me was the willingness those who had been at Sunday training to explain to those who had not what we were working on and how we should build our relationships together both on and off the pitch. Excellent encouragement in the field too.

Things to work on:

Handling the faster bowler
Creating a field that puts pressure on the batsman
Working on how to influence the game as a fielder

Good things to build upon:

Backing up in the field
Strong calling
Taking the opportunistic runs
