Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI v Frinton-on-Sea on Sat 30 May 2009 at 1.00pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 42 runs

Match report This week the mighty Copdock welcomed the Frinton massive to the Copdcok bowl on a glorious day for cricket. Shorts had produced another belter and the day was set for a great game of cricket.

Copdock were missing Gerbals, unavailable due to visa problems and Lucian is still a figment of Nose’s imagination. The School didn’t have a game so the crap hair brigade were back in the side. Cook, Gravell and Ian Sword came back into the ranks, and Sharpe and Ethan missed out… the late night ranting texts were not that far away!! Thomas somehow held on to his place… buying one of the selectors a bat definitely helped!!!

Frinton won the toss and elected to bowl first, which was a surprise, they thought that Copdock’s batting line up may choke and allow them an easy chase. The day was set when Strangely Brown, the last of the Eaton tiddleywinkers, took 25 from the first two overs. Ben raced to 30 before dragging on and being bowled…. Jenko looked his normal scared self before being caught by the worlds best gully fielder for 19. Archie batted at three and looked serene for 40 odd before being bowled playing an outrageous slog, he will now have 100 lines to do before playing again. The worlds 3rd nicest man, Nelly, looked good again before following Gravell and being bowled trying to whack the spinner. That meant than Pidge came to the crease with 17 overs left and he scored quickly making a typical 60 odd before being out with 2 overs to go trying to score quick runs. Nose, who put on 60 with Chris scored 35 not out, without hitting the ball off the square. He was also nearly snapped in half by the Kiwi, having taken a nasty blow to the inside thigh. A blow like that would have killed a less hardy man. The Chokers finished on a respectable 236-5. Thomas faced a few balls but batted for his average and finished 3 not out. Ian Sword didn’t bat, wouldn’t bowl and was basically a waste of space all day!!!!!

Nose was due to open the bowling when Frinton replied.. however Brown threw a wobbly and Eek backed down…. So Cooky and France started things off. Frinton never really got away, but didn’t lose any wickets either so were always in the hunt. Pidge bowled his usual tight spell and even Nose was allowed 3 overs that went for only 8 runs…..In the context of the Frinton Chase…. Those 3 tight overs proved to be the difference… They really did!!!!

Frinton finished 40 runs short….but needed 67 from 10 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Eek and Ben bowled excellently at the death and both picked up 4 wickets….. Copdock have improved with each game and looked a far better batting side…. The fielding was better with no Sharpe… although Hawkey said that Jenko had dropped the league when he put down that sitter in the deep…. Slightly over the top… but if we do…I’ll blame Jenko!!!

No school game next week, but Pidge is missing…Jerv is back and hopefully Lucian is here….. We all need to set things up as coming unstuck against Coggeshall is simply unthinkable for any of us who have ever played against them!!!!!

The future’s bright, the future’s Copdock
