Match report Copdock U13 V Eye Cricket Club U13
Suffolk Cup – First Round
13 May 2008
Playing at home for the first time this season the square had been superbly prepared and the whole ground looking spectacular. A special thank you to the grounds staff for the hours of preparation needed to prepare the square and ground in readiness for hosting the match.
Challenging Eye Cricket Club in the first round of the Suffolk Cup was set to be a memorable night. The knockout format of the cup allows us to play a variety of clubs that embrace the Suffolk area as the competition progress and expectations were high for advancement after a good opening victory last week against Bury.
Chris Baron, captain for the night won the toss and elected to bat on a near perfect surface. Our opening partnership set about their task and after a tentative start runs were added at a steady rate. With Jamie on 10 runs an excellent delivery found its way through Jamie’s defence and our first wicket was conseeded. Chris Wildig, building on a solid performance at Bury continued to bat effortlessly and reached his 30 before retiring displaying a good range of shots. This signalled an uneasy stage of the game with wickets falling through a run out and good bowling before Joe steadied the ship and batted well for 22.
Archie making his first appearance this season shared a productive partnership with Tom closing the innings on 7 and 16 respectively not out.
A combined total of 128 for 5 wickets was achieved and this represented a credible target for Eye to chase.
Eye opened their run chase and by the second over had lost their first wicket bowed by Ben, moving the score on steadily the total set by our lads looked beyond their reach even at this early stage. A spell of fine spin bowling by Archie pinned the score back and was rewarded with a deserved wicket. On the night due to the competition rules the bowling was rotated and Jamie showed his class with the ball in a spell of 3 over’s for 1 wicket and conseeding just 6 runs.

Captain, Chris Baron bowed a tight spell of 2 over’s yielding just 7 runs and Tom showed his pace in a spell of 4 over’s and collecting 2 vital wickets. But in a spell of 4 over’s for just 12 runs and collecting 2 wickets James took bowling honours on the night.
Eye concluded their innings, achieving 98 for 7 wickets, a total that never challenged the total set.
On the night the team played as a unit and displayed the qualities we have come to expect from this team. By reducing the amount of extras given away and by effectively communicating between the stumps, the lads clearly showed they had listened to the coaching staff and corrected allot of what was needed after the Bury game last week, thus improving performance overall.
In closing many thanks to Martin, Neil and Adrian for their help on the night, it is much appreciated.
