With the forecast giving rain and the Champions League final being played that night the omens did not look promising. But our guys turned up at a delightful ground basked in late sunlight. The ground itself was looking exceptional and the outfield hard and recently cut.
Felix going for the toss and intending to bat, lost and then stunned by the opposition decision to field. Without delay our opening pair were padded up and facing early deliveries that saw steady progress. With 10 runs on the board Chris Wildig fell victim to a harsh decision and was judged to be LBW. A very disappointed Chris returned to the pavilion and that proved to be the only success Hadleigh enjoyed with the ball.
What followed was a run feast with Jamie, Felix and Will all reaching retirement displaying good batting strokes to all corners of the ground, with one memorable six by Will that cleared the ground entirely! With Chris Baron showing some form to reach 23 not out and Joe building on previous innings success to close our batting on 15 not out.
A combined total of 172 was posted.
A disillusioned Hadleigh side came out to bat to face an attacking field with two slips and a field set close. Looking intimidated the first wicket fell for no runs and a combination of good bowling and fielding saw the home side bowled out for 57 runs, a victory by 115 runs!
Bowling spells of 5 for 3 wickets for Toby, 18 for 4 wickets for Brendan and 12 for 3 wickets for Jack tore through a side that never on the day looked capable of competing. After 16 over’s time had run out and Copdock were worthy winners keeping their 100% winning streak going.
This was a well disciplined display and showed great credit to themselves and their club, in victory they were humble and took time to wish Hadliegh the very best for the season ahead and their efforts on the night.
In closing many thanks to Adrian, Tom and Wayne for their help on the night, it is much appreciated.
