Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v Clacton on Sat 08 Jul 2017 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report The Twosaders Winbus chugged back into the Oval following the mid season break with Clacton the visitors. A bright and sunny day greeted our visitors as did Sexy and M-M-Mlambo back for a spell in the firsts with Gravell otherwise engaged. Nose looked particularly full of beans and appeared to be revelling in his ridiculous M-O-M in the mid week Lashing fixture. Thomas was also keen to regale all and sundry with stories of depositing the ageing Embury into a field and the declining Panesar on to the road. Indeed it was a bit of a relief when walking football began and for the first time in history the Young ones were victorious, helped perhaps by outnumbrting the old 'uns by two bodies (one was Reuben).

After the warm up Ironfist continued to disappoint by losing the toss and being asked to field another flat looking wicket which promised some leather chasing, though perhaps not as much as spin twins East and Jenkin had during the week. It was perhaps a surprised that Jenkin hadn't tweaked a neck muscle n the Lashings game looking upwards so often as the ball had been sailing over his head, over the trees and out of the ground.

Things began very well for the Chokers. Nose was right on the money and on another day could have picked up a wicket with his first ball. Soon after however, to the delight of all, Facey was bowled through the gate attempting an ambitious drive for a second ball duck. JP also started well and an intelligent use of the short ball soon saw fellow opener Sheik trudging back to the hutch as the reluctant Percival was bullied into taking a catch at square leg. JP followed this up with a Yorker to remove the dangerous Chamberlain and Flopdock were on top. Despite more impressive bowling Nose and JP were unable to make more headway and Ironfist looked to Jenkin and East JR for more wickets. Jenkin was soon into his stride. Bowling with control, accuracy and some occasional spin he soon got rid of overseas star Erfurth and Brad Pitts while East accounted for Parkes who made a gritty if not pretty, 30. Clacton rebuilt with Kirk and Kulasena, though Jenkin continued his impressive work and the rate was pedestrian. Kirk eventually fell to Jenkin courtesy of an outstanding Mlambo catch, sprinting backwards from midwicket and clinging on over his shoulder.

Eventually Clacton stuttered to 150 for 9, a total which looked someway below par, talk over tea was that this was well within reach.

Gooben Sharpe and Kaarl Snorey opened up for Flopdock and were soon underway. Perhaps keen to prove to Max that he wasn't "the most boring person I know" Kaarl found the boundary regularly through the covers once in and a steady risk free start saw Copdock well placed. Reuben also started strongly mixing, as he often does, the sublime (cover drives) with the ridiculous and also benefited from a drop at mid off that even he would have fancied hanging on to. Eventually Reuben played one loose shot too many and was bowled through the gat by Imran for 33 and replaced by Percy. Percy was initially keen to replicate his batting masterclass from Lakenheath hacking his first runs over the legside but soon hit his stride. As Kaarl serenely strolled to a chanceless half century Percy found another gear and began hitting boundaries almost at will, taking 22 off Pitts second over as Copdock won at a canter. An excellent performance made all the more enjoyable as news of rivals Ipswich humbling at the hands of IES came through the website.

On to Coggy next week where we look to reverse a poor showing last time around.

Sombrero - Donald. What. A. Catch.

SC Strawberry - the only blemish of the day - Nose cowardice of the last ball of the innings costing us another point.
