Match report The first team made the journey to Maldon on Saturday. It's the hardest drive in the world, very similar to the Island in lost, it seems to change in location and time each time you visit. However, without having to follow Michael Kay we managed to get there with Percy's up to date Sat Nav.

Chris Swallow was missing as was Adi Nell and Howard Knights. Sharpe somehow kept his place after another fantastic showing in the nets on Thursday. I spoke to Hugh Thomas and he suggested that we make Reuben bat in a Bee keeper's hat, Eek is seriously considering it! Ward and Pope also kept their places and Burch returned behind the stumps in place of Hugh.

I notice that nobody on the forum has commented further on the Abberton warm up.... Well this was an absolute shambles. The out field looked as though they had just taken down the barbed wire from no-mans-land and popped a pitch in the middle of it. The catching was poor, even after moving out of the sun, the throwing was a shambles, Burchy didn't fancy moving, having said that the throwing was so, so bad I can't even begin to discuss it. I gave up after 2 mins, I simply couldn't take part any longer.

Eek won the toss, I believe, and Copdock fielded first in the most incredible heat.

Deon and Nose opened up and bowled pretty well again. The managed to get three wickets in the first three overs from No balls. Deon had a caught and bowled, Nose then Bowled one of the openers and then Nose took a fine catch at fine leg from a Deon bouncer. It was very, very strange.

Deon finally got a break through but Maldon had made a pretty good start with some very average shots!! Then eek turned to spin. Jenko replaced Deon and Eek replaced Nose.

They turned the game around and bowled 28 overs for only 67 runs and took 6 wickets, Eek took 4 and Jenko 2. Eek was so out of shape that he couldn't physically bowl his final two overs and was sick all Saturday night! Put the fork down Eek. Great spell though....!

Deon and Nose returned to polish things off and Maldon were all out from the final ball for 164. A decent effort in the sun from Copdock, however their usual high standards did slip slightly, with Thomas' through the legs, Sharpe-like, attempt the personal low point.

Copdock knew that 165 was an easily gettable total, however with the recent batting slumps and extra pressure on the kids after last week's debacle it would prove to be a decent ask.

Archie and Jenks got things of to a decent start, each scoring 30, although they did both have a couple of outrageous pieces of fortune. The catch Archie gave was the worst drop I have EVER seen, and I mean ever!

They both perished and Percy stroked a decent 30 before throwing it away with a bit of a heave. Ward was given out LBW because he's young!!!! Shocker!!! Sharpe got into double figures and also had a round of applause for his 100th run of the season! He died his usual death, trying to pull a Yorker and was out LBW. Nose and Thomas ( great whacking Huge ) saw the boys home by 5 wickets. Nose was robbed of a further fantasy point when Thomas slogged a four to win it!

All in all a decent performance, Maldon were not great, but you have to win these games and we did with a weaker team. This will stand the boys in good stead when they are called upon in the next few weeks.
