Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI v Mildenhall on Sat 05 Jun 2010 at 1.00pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report
Mildenhall at Home 5th June 2010.

Well the first team welcomed the pacey Mildenhall to the Copdock Oval on Saturday. Both teams have underperformed this season so far, so both were looking for a win. Copdock had made some changes, the most notible was that Burchy was not in the starting line up for the first time in many years. It felt strange to take the field without him. Also this meant the Oldies were one down in the warm up and no surprise that the youngsters won for the first time in 6 years!

Elf like Holmes won the toss and decided to bat quite rightly, although both Eek and Nose had continually told him and Larger Holmes that it would nibble about early on! It didn’t.

Nose and Ethan opened up on a blisteringly hot June day. Nose bowled ok... He wouldn’t mind taking a left hander around all summer to bowl against first up.

The Hall got of to a steady, if not spectacular start. The only early wicket to fall was a run out, after Ricey swooped at midwicket and hit direct!

Eek and Pidge then bowled 30 overs between them taking 4 for 80, which was great work!!! Nose came back and got some stick in his two overs, which meant his figures looked worse than he bowled. This meant Pidge had to turn to Jenko.....

I feel sick typing this as Jenko bowled the last five overs at one end and took 4 for 31... quite frankly a disgrace!!!!! A couple of great catches in the deep ( along with the screamer Hugh took at short mid wicket, similar to Box man Ben from last year ) and some good straight stuff meant Mildenhall finished 198-9...

Copdocks fielding was excellent in very hot conditions....even Reuben fielded well, Eek counted that he touched the ball 7 times before any mistake.... Brilliant Reuben...not to him!!!

Copdock started their reply and the clouds came over to make it perfect seam bowling weather...great...Mildenhall with the left arm thunderbolt Mills, the overseas pro Lwanda and James Holmes should cause problems. Reuben then ran Hugh out in the first over and new man Kinga walked out to bat. Reuben tried a couple of times to run him out too, without luck!

James Holmes replace Mills and snared both Sharpe ( LBW ) and Rice ( bowled ) in his first over. 20-3.

Kinga and Nelly then put on 100 in 15 overs ( which took nearly 2 hours as the over rate stopped!! ), Nelly got to 36 ( 9 X 4’s ) before he decided to take a single.

When Nelly departed for 61 , very Jervis...caught long on... a wobble looked likely as first Pidge hit a full toss at cover, then Kingston, 57, was well caught at Mid wicket and Then Nose was given out LBW for 13...Copdock needed 15 to win with 3 wickets left...

Ed Pope batted with calm aggression and saw the team home with a very good 20 not out, Jenko was there too... very luckily not out 2!! ( YUK )

All in all... a great team display.... Fielded well.... Bowled well..... Batted ok... Stand out Performers were Nelly 61 and Kingy 57.

Now 6th and moving the right way.... The future’s bright, the future’s copdock!!!
