Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 15 runs

Match report A fairly close Inter-Copdock match, played in great spirit, with lots of good cricket on display.

Batting first, the Lions made 161 off their 18 overs for the loss of six wickets. Top scorers were Shlok with 34 runs off 18 balls and captain William with 18 runs off 14 balls. Top wicket taker for the Hawks was Charlie with 3 wickets, with a wicket apiece for captain Sam and Henry, who also made a direct hit run-out.

The Hawks therefore had a challenging target to overhaul, but were starting on 30 runs for the six wickets taken. Batting positively from the start, the Hawks were scoring well above the required rate, needing only 46 runs off the last 10 overs. This was then pegged back through tighter bowling from the Lions, leaving a target of 32 runs off the final 5 overs, but still well within range. The game was then turned on its head in the next four overs with only 14 runs being scored for the loss of three wickets, each worth an extra 5 runs, leaving 32 runs for victory off the final over. Despite last minute heroics from Jack and Gabriel in the final over, the Hawks fell short by 15 runs.

Top scorers for the Hawks were Gabriel (batting with a runner following a twisted ankle earlier in the match) with 37 runs off 17 balls (9 boundaries and a solitary single) and Jack with 33 runs off 16 balls. There was a wicket apiece for William, Armaan, Alexander and Jake, with the Lions tighter bowling overall securing the victory.

Good to see a lot of what we've been working on in training being put into practice in a match setting.

A shame that the junior season is drawing to a close (we also played our final league match on Friday), although there are a couple more Friday evening inter-club matches planned.
