Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 41 runs

Match report Thanks to everyone for turning up in time for the match and a big thanks to Angus McLean in the junior scorebox and our two trainee scorers Sarah Field and James Kerr, who will hopefully be helping out at matches during the season.

The U13s batted first, with Isaac McLean scoring an excellent unbeaten 51 off just 21 balls and captain Finley Card scoring 17 off 15 balls. However, they were pegged back by some probing, accurate U11 bowling and energetic fielding and lost a total of 10 wickets, with Arthur East getting his first (hopefully of many) fifers for the club (5 for 17 off 3 overs), backed up by Shlok Kumar (3 for 25 off 3) and a wicket apiece for Jack Defty and captain Sam Field, whilst Orlando Church again performed excellently behind the stumps.

The number of wickets taken meant that the U11s already started on a score of 50, chasing down 136 off 18 overs. The U13 bowling was also accurate, with a wicket apiece for Isaac McLean, Marcus Boorman, Alex Elder and Monty Clark-Wright, supported by a fine performance by Isaac Brightwell with the gloves. However, the U11 openers batted both positively and intelligently and it wasn’t until the 8th over that the first wicket fell and the 13th over for the second wicket, meaning that the U11s were already in the lead on the scoreboard from the 10th over onwards. Despite three late wickets in the final 3 overs, it was a case of too little, too late and the U11’s ran out the winners by 41 runs. Whilst not quite matching Isaac’s 50, there were attacking batting performances from Jack Defty (41 off 21 balls) and Shlok Kumar (26 off 15 balls), backed up by unbeaten run a ball innings from Orlando Church and Sam Field.

There was a lot of good cricket played and it’s looking good for the U11 cup team ahead of their first round match against Melton next Friday, but hopefully all players of all ages enjoyed another sunny Friday evening at Copdock ahead of the upcoming League and Cup fixtures.
