City of Cambridge U13 girls v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Jaguars U13 on Sun 16 Jun 2024 at 1300
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Sunday afternoon saw another comprehensive victory for the Jaguars in their Vitality national T20 campaign. The third round took the girls away to face a City of Cambridge side that had beaten Melton by 99 runs in their previous game. Copdock won the toss and put Cambridge into bat on a pitch that was definitely suffering from all the recent rain and showing a distinct lack of bounce. Gracie Brunt and Izzy Gebhard opened the bowling with characteristic blistering pace to control the run rate, with Izzy taking the first wicket in the second over. Lilia Cook and Isla Staines continued in similar fashion before Lilia produced a stunning direct hit from just inside the rope to claim a run out in the seventh over. Lilia, captain for the day, then followed this up with a confident catch off Isla’s bowling the very next ball. Emma Cable bought a change of pace to claim another victim with her second ball in the next over. Livvy Swallow then took two in the next over with some brilliant spin to leave Cambridge 35-6. They lasted another two overs and ten runs before Emma took a sharp catch off Grace John’s bowling to wrap up the innings at 45-7. With five different bowlers taking wickets the innings was testament to the depth of the squad, with Florrie Kemp’s wicket keeping also a highlight on a misbehaving pitch.

Despite the apparently low target the girls were wary of the conditions and set about the chase with due care and concentration. Lilia played exceptionally well for 28 from 24 balls and was well supported by Gracie, Grace (8*) and Izzy before Livvy came in to hit winning two runs from the single ball she faced. To beat a very capable side by such a large margin and in tricky conditions is another demonstration of the talent and application of this side. The next round will be at home against either Overstone Park or Stony Stratford on a date TBC.
