Match report Last league match of the season for the Phoenix, but no rise from the ashes, as the team finishes the season with 3 wins and 5 losses from 8 matches.

Overall the batting and bowling was of good quality from both sides, with Copdock probably shading it in these disciplines. However, ultimately the difference between the teams was down to the fielding: positioning, execution and calmness. The match was fairly close in the end and down to small margins: Thomas overstepping before knocking the middle stump out; boundaries not stopped and far too many overthrows from pointlessly hurling the ball at the stumps from close range, when no-one was backing up.

With the bat, Frank and Thapas both scored 23 at more than a run a ball, ably backed up by the others, with a number of boundaries and good communication and running between the wickets, making the most of wides and byes, despite Melton's sharper fielding.

Zac did well with the gloves, despite being hit on the peak of the helmet and also on the chin which caused him to bite his tongue (ouch).

Unfortunately Sam was not able to bowl, due to an injured thumb (although this did not prevent him making a direct hit run-out and hitting a couple of well struck fours with the bat), so the other 6 players had three overs each. There was miserly bowling from James and Thapas (although a number of byes were taken, due to some odd fielding positions), whilst the best bowling figures came from Jonty, with three wickets for 12 runs (including a double wicket maiden).

Overall. a close match, but a slightly sobering end to the season.
