Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 24 runs

Match report A much improved performance from the Hawks when compared to the away fixture at Battisford, which was the first league match of the season. However, Battisford had also improved and outplayed us in most areas, although their winning margin was somewhat reduced.

Bowling and fielding was very good 80% of the time, but sadly the wides count was still too high and several balls went for four past fielders who were too close in. Improvement in these two areas would have made it a fairly even match. Yet more repetitive bowling practice will help with consistency, whilst when fielding the boys must resist the temptation to keep creeping inwards. Batting was much more positive with players trying to strike the ball hard, calling loudly and taking almost all opportunities to snaffle extra runs: the running between the wickets being just the right side of suicidal!

Best individual performances came from Chris (15 runs), Frank (13 runs) and James (12 runs) with the bat and Chris again with the ball (3-2-9-4). Special mentions to James who keeps improving with the gloves, gaining the confidence to stand closer to the stumps; Riley whose bowling continues to improve, knocking out the middle stump with his first ball and Wilfred who kept trying his hardest despite clearly not feeling too well, eventually having to leave the field.

A tough away fixture at Stowupland awaits the Hawks next, which will give us the opportunity to see just how well we are improving.
