Match report Wivenhoe Take The Piss!

Well the day started amicably as none of Wivenhoe's enemies turned up (no Klinsman East, JP East or A Burch). That was until Scott Harvey decided to urinate on a tree. Good one scott. We just managed to get to Wivenhoe, without dieing on the A12 slip off, good driving skip! We arrived, early, eager to watch the Test Match on Wivenhoe's Sky Tele, take note Chairman... However made a horrendous miscalculation as we only saw 3 balls before Lunch, once again we had an hour to do nothing. The pitch was described as "sporting" after the mighty IES only managed 105 the day before... Surprisingly the Wiv skipper won the toss and chose to bat!

When Ethan Wright bowled the first ball of the game and it seared through to Hugo Gravell at head height and the slips cordon took 5 big steps back, the decision to bat seemed all the more odd. Ethan bowled with pace and bounce. Gauke was heard to be praying that the batsman didn't edge it. Well when the edge came it was Captain Thomas who continued his catching form from the day before. He soared from the Gully, desperate to avoid Gauke a chance to drop it, and downed it himself. Hugo Gravell clearly had the same idea flopping in front of the chairman aswell. Poor bowler, lucky chairman. The Cat managed to hang on to one at cover and cook persuaded the other opener to miss a straight one! Copdock looked set to run through Wiv, but two of our three prong seam attack pulled up with bad backs.... kids kids kids. Due to the ladders going up in unison, the Cat got a bowl unusually early. He bowled three overs into the wind, then moaned when he got hit with the wind for six. Theres no point crying over spilt milk Cat. The cat came back at the Pavillion end, and had a little more control. But it was Gauke who bowled a good 9 overs for 21, picking up two quick wickets. One a caught and bowled making up for other missed chances throughout the season. I shan't describe it as no one would believe what really happened. Physicists on the ground were busy working out equations to see if it was possible! I'll just stress this though, the boulder managed to get himself off the ground. Mark Burch came on to bowl some Ian Harvey-like medium pace at the death, as no one else would bowl into the wind! Burch's searing pace, mopped up the tail, as the hamburgler stole 4-39 and took them home in his bag of swag. The last poor batsman was out laughing as the ball came down.

Copdock went into an average tea needing 220 to win. The captain though he'd lead from the front. Well that lasted all of 10 balls. Comparisons between he and Brearley were rumoured to be floating about. Surely the only reason he still has his spot is because of his car. It's a sad say when a cricketer is in a team just because he can drive. He should practice a cricketing drive perhaps!
Gravell, A, got his first 0 since 1995, when Finlay Haughton-Smith bowled him first ball on the Orwell Park Playground. The Gravells wonderful days out continued as Hugo also got 0. Hugo had a great day out, conceding byes, missing stumpings and getting 0. However, he did collect the match fees. In truth Copdocks batting never produced, with only two players making double figures, there were 5 0's! Harvey looked good for 32 but that was all. Mark Burch once again showed promised scoring his second 50 plus score in 2 weeks. This one featuring some gloriuos timing off his legs. This boy can play.

All in all Copdock were poor, and never really competed, however I still blame Scott for firing them up.

5-5
