Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Sunday XI v Witham on Sun 14 Jun 2009 at 2.00pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Great Scott!!!

Copdock took on the Mighty Witham at a Glorious Copdock Oval. The invalid skipper was placed under undue amounts of stress the night before the game when club vice captain, JR East, let the team down and pulled out. The invalid, already stressed, ill and tired was forced to find another player at the last minute.

Stand in skipper Borke took on the role with pleasure and started the day well losing the toss on a Shorten Flattie, the were cries of delight in the Home dressing room as the team took the field. Gauke's inability to toss a coin only matched by his incompetence with a computer, the following Tuesday.

Sasha Ward struck twice early on, however he, Sharpe and Hemy failed to control the flow of runs. It was only when the tweak twins of Gauke and Catlow came on that Copdock had any resemblence of control, with the Cat starting with 14 dot-balls in a row(yes i counted). He must have surely have got bored bowling maidens, having bowled 13 the day before! I went home for a nap at this point when Witham were 90-3, they scored loads when I slept and got up to 232-5, I can't tell you anything else about this period, although I heard Reuben bowled well, but who can prove that!?!

In timing my sleep poorly, I missed tea and the start of our innings. It was rumoured that Reuben Sharpe held the Witham opener solely responsible for his recent run of scores, so pasted him everywhere, so the book says! But then in true Sharpe as a marble fashion he holed out to Mid off from the bowling of officer Dibble Dobble. Scott Harvey batted quite frankly magnificently, scoring his 2nd hundred in the PDQ, and once again failing to get out, taking his average to 308, tidy. His aggregate of runs for the weekend was 205, out once! One might say he was in good nick, long may it continue! Tom Davey came and went in a flash, for 52, combining squash, hockey, tennis and golf shots. He may have played one or two cricket shots, yes he did play one, but he missed it and was out LBW. Hugo Gravell looked remarkably assured, some said he was just happy to get a bat, a rarity these days with his brother continually selfish.

Another good win, the team rolls on, away to the mighty Copford Oak Trees next week, before the big one, Coggeshall away. Anyone unavailable for Cogg away should be questioned how much does this club mean to you? we cant lose there twice in a month, really. 'Till next time.

4-1
