Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Sunday XI v Maldon on Sun 24 May 2009 at 2.00pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report On quite possibly the best pitch ever prepared in the History of Mankind, The Copdock Oval was the stunning location for a cracking game of cricket on a beautiful day!

Maldon got off to a flier after calling heads and winning the toss. Then sneakily twisting the rope up, so that the game was late starting whilst the shambolic attempts to undo the rope ensued, thus ruining copdocks mental and physical preparation. In the middle overs the cat was frankly sublime, 10 overs for 18, watch out swallow, this kitten is on your back (he turned it, lots! and he has superbly shite hair). Batsman and keeper alike were bamboozled, the Sydney A grader, was made to look like a year 8, non match, non hardball cricket set player at Ipswich School, by the guile of Catlow. Gauke tossed a few flat ones and picked up 3, one a neat legside stumping. Once the spinners came off, Maldon increased the run rate again, carving the young seam attack all over the oval, with the Aus, taking a single off the last ball which he should have wiped to take him to 100, but his team to the moderate total of 223-4. Attention must be paid to the excellent fielding of Cowdrey who was most mobile in the covers.

Copdock went out to bat, with both batsmen under the instructions that if they dont score hundreds they may not play next week, Harvey made sure of his place (what exams?) with 112*, whilst Sharpe scratched around for 53 (smashed it everywhere), before hole-ing out to Mid on, a fitting death, as he should have been caught third ball. Sharpe will be lucky to make next weeks team and if he does there's no chance of him bowling. Space Cadet Gravell came out to bat with lots still needed and he made a brief 15 before playing a highly uncharacteristic slog, out. Gravell junior came out to bat, and quite frankly made his brother look like the nonner he really is. Gravell Jnr played shots all around the ground in his knock of 32, getting out shortly before the end, to give young Brad Hodge a go, he played a glorious back foot defensive, before Harvey knocked the runs off at t'other end. Another great win, credit due all round, if only the thirds could pull their fingers out and win some games...
Thanks go to the Bacon Fry for scoring in searing heat.
