Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost By 64 Runs

Match report A difficult semi final against a very good side saw Copdock fall 64 runs short. Having lost the toss and been asked to bowl first after an hour and a half delayed start it was clear to see that it would be the biggest test of the season so far. The Broadstairs openers started patiently and gradually accelerated making the most of the difficult conditions. Lewis removed Fox LBW after he’d been dropped from a hard chance. Carter joined Ralph Harding and they put on a 72 run partnership off 41 balls, Carter having been dropped on 20 went on to retire not out 50 off just 27 balls with some powerful hitting. The damage had been done and although a steady fall of Wickets followed, Broadstairs had got to 148 from their 20 overs. Tom with 3-28 and Kajeai 2-21 and a wicket for Lewis backed up by some good ground fielding by all.
Copdock looked to start patiently and stay with the rate but with very few bad balls to hit found it hard to find the momentum required. Dot ball pressure started to build and the ball was only finding the fielders not the boundary. Will tried hard to push on but was caught in the deep which was a massive blow to the team. Wickets started to fall as the batters tried to push on and only Dan Norman managed to find a boundary with a beautiful straight 6 eventually being bowled for 16. The innings ended with 7 balls to spare and Copdock were all out much to the disappointment of everyone. We had lost to the eventual winners who were a very good side and the fact we had reached the last 16 in the competition should not be forgotten. Lots of positives to take forward and maybe have another go next year.
