Match report On a very hot and sunny evening, at Melton Cricket Club, the Copdock Cardinals won the toss and decided to bat.

The Cardinals, batted well throughout the innings, with Louis Cannon and skipper Archie Magnus getting the innings off to a quick start, before Louis was caught for 6 and Archie soon after caught for 13, this brought together Frank Rogers, playing his first game for the club and Connor Holdcroft, and both batted well with Connor hitting 6 fours on his way to 30, off just 18 balls, before he retired and Frank retiring too on 12. This then brought together Louis Hembry and Isaac Humberstone, with Louis giving the batting performance of the night, with 33 off just 15 balls, with 6 fours and 1 five, before he retired too, this then brought Henry Clark to the wicket and Henry and Isaac continued to score quickly, before Isaac’s retired in the last over of the innings for 24, and Henry finished 17 not out, including one delightful flick over square leg for 4 and Ptolemy Van Den Budgen was 1 not out and the Cardinals finished their innings on a very good 175 for 2 off their 18 overs.

When the Cardinals bowled there was some good bowling by all, with Freddie Foyster bowling his 2 overs for 9 runs and James Fishenden bowling his 2 overs for 6 runs, including 2 wickets, both bowled, with excellent yorker deliveries, including dismissing the Melton opening bat who plays for Suffolk. Then Isaac bowled 2 overs for 9 runs and Henry 2 overs for just 4 runs and taking two wickets, both to excellent catches from Archie, taking a high one and Freddie, taking a low diving catch, then Connor bowled 2 overs for 16 runs and took 1 wicket clean bowled, Archie bowled his 2 overs for 14 runs, then Louis Hembry bowled his 2 overs for just 5 runs and Ptolemy bowled his 2 overs 8 runs and took 1 wicket clean bowled again, then Louis Cannon bowled 1 over for 4 runs and Frank finished the innings off bowling his 1 over for no runs. At the end of the 18 overs Melton finished on 86 for 6, with the Cardinals winning by 89 runs.

The Cardinals ground fielding was generally good too, but still some missed run out opportunities, and one difficult catch put down too, so some practice still to be worked on in the fielding area of the game, over the coming weeks too, skipper Archie captained well, but fielders must learn to field in the positions the captain puts them, and concentrate throughout the 18 overs of the game, Edward Townrow also kept wicket tidily, with only 5 byes being conceded.

So a good team performance from the Cardinals and another win, and whilst there is still areas to improve on, there were many good performance on the night.
