Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 70 runs

Match report A salutary lesson for essentially the same team that dealt out a 100 run beating to a weak East Bergholt team just three days previously. The match was effectively lost in the first few overs with our openers not getting enough bat on ball and us actually being behind the fielding team after three overs (5 runs scored off the bat, but six runs awarded to the bowlers). After a very slow start, Ben managed to find the boundary a few times (finishing on 15), whilst Harry and Charlie also struggled to get us back to somewhere near a decent strike rate (being our top scorers on 24 and 16 respectively). However, we finished our innings with only 98 on the board, whilst Hadleigh were already on 15.

The home team started their innings much more brightly, scoring more than 12 an over and passing the target within seven overs. At the drinks break, the team's target changed to keeping Hadleigh below 200 and our loss to below 100 runs. The boys responded well with Hadleigh's scoring rate being reduced to 7.5 runs an over for the rest of the innings, despite some power batting, whilst we picked up some good wickets, catching well and combining to force a couple of run-outs, to end up losing by (only!) 70 runs, when it could have been oh so much worse.
