Match report The Pelicans continue their winning ways with a good win against a very enthusiastic and committed Kesgrave side. Pelicans batted first and got off to a flyer with skipper Wooton smashing 28 of 8 balls, Monty continuing with a couple of big hits, one of them a 6 over the scorers table. However to much of trying to hit the big shot, and not enough smart batting and picking up singles, the innings slowed in the middle overs. Taking nothing away from Kesgrave who perhaps were not the most talented cricketers, certainly made up for this by throwing themselves around the field putting their bodies on the line for their team, in a brilliant fielding display stopping at least 30 runs in the field. We as a club could take much notice of this, and improve our attitudes in the field. Pelicans finishing on 128 which could have been easily 160 +.
Pelicans took the field and started well, bowling tight and fielding with energy. However an unfortunate blow to keeper Wooton's knee saw a couple of keeper changes and a significant drop in intensity and a distinctly below average performance in the field. Players not getting there body behind it balls going through legs, was very disappointing close to embarassing at times. The least I expect is for players to back their team mates up in the field, I don't mind if people try and they make a mistake, but to not put the effort in is poor.
Bowling wise Henry with 4, Will with a couple and Tom bowling well in a good spinners display saw us restrict a resiliant Kesgrave to 111.
Solid display but always things to work on.
