Match report An enthusiastic Phoenix team put in a good batting performance in their away fixture at Melton. Captain Carr, winning the toss, decided to field first and bowl from the end where the Melton batsman would have the sun in their eyes. Phoenix restricted Melton to 89-2 off 16 overs with Liam Early and William Shaw taking a wicket each.
The Copdock innings started well with good running between the wickets from Liam and Ahbi, and good contributions from Ted, Billy and William. The slight setback of losing two middle order wickets was addressed by some clinical hitting by James Marsh, including a straight six. With the scores almost level the last Copdock batsmen, Alfie and Miles, went in with instructions to take things easy, concentrate and not lose any silly wickets. They duly thrashed the ball around the ground and ran quick singles to put on another 30 runs. Phoenix finished on 120-2, winning by 31 runs. Buoyed on by their first victory the Phoenix players cannot wait for their next match.
