Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Cardinals U11 v Felixstowe on Wed 31 May 2017 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 13 runs
Match report
On a warm Wednesday evening at Copdock Cricket Club, the Copdock Cardinals captain Thomas Liddy won the toss and decided to field.
Felixstowe batted steadily in the first few overs and then picked up the momentum in the middle overs and ended up batting well throughout the rest of their innings, with their first three batsmen all retiring with 25 each, there was some good bowling performances from the following Cardinal bowlers, Sam Slatter, 3 overs, for only 11 runs, James Fishenden, 3 overs, for only 9 runs, Hugo Lloyd, 3 overs, 1 wicket, for 12 runs and Thomas King 2 overs, 1 wicket, for only 7 runs, with these four bowlers being the bowlers who kept best control, however Felixstowe continued to bat well and reached 105 for 2 at the end of their 18 overs, overall all the bowlers from the Cardinals need to work harder on achieving more control and accuracy at bowling at the stumps, to improve their performances in the weeks ahead, In the field, there was some good fielding performances from Thomas Liddy and Oliver Carr, who were the pick of the Cardinal fielders, but the teams general fielding and overall awareness in the field, needs working on and improving quickly over the weeks ahead too. However a special mention must go to Harrison Strand, who kept wicket very well for the Cardinals throughout the innings.
In reply, the Cardinals got off to a terrible start with the bat, finding themselves 4 for 4, after just 3 overs, with Archie Magnus running himself out, and Oliver Carr, Dylan Patel and Harrison Strand all then being bowled, there was then small recovery from Thomas Liddy and Henry Proctor, before Liddy was 5th out for 7, Proctor was then joined by Hugo Lloyd and in the best partnership from the Cardinals, some momentum was finally achieved, for the first time in the innings, before Lloyd was bowled for 11, Proctor continued to bat well and retired at 25, and then Freddie Foyster, Sam Slatter and James Fishenden all tried to speed up the run chase in the last few overs, however all were bowled in their attempts to do so, Proctor then returned to join last man Thomas King, and King made a useful 9 before he was also bowled off the last ball of the innings, leaving Proctor 27 not out, with the Cardinals finishing on 92 all out, 13 runs short of the required total. Again the Cardinal batsmen need to reflect on their running between the wickets, their general decision making when at the crease and improve their attempts to hit the bad balls for 4 as too many scoring opportunities were missed, so plenty of hard work ahead for the coaches and players to ensure we improve our overall performance over the coming weeks.
Well done to Felixstowe who overall hit the bad balls for four, bowled more accurately at the stumps, as there 8 wickets achieved by hitting the stumps backs up and their overall team fielding was very alert, with plenty of energy and awareness from them all.
Henry Proctor takes the Cardinals man of the match performance, for his strong batting display, with a good all round performance from Hugo Lloyd as well.
I look forward to seeing all the Cardinals at training over the comings weeks, so we can work on and improve our weaknesses from this game in the weeks ahead.
