Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report A strong looking Twosaders travelled to Kelvedon, for a tricky looking fixture, on an overcast day looking to keep the heat upon Ipswich and maintain the promotion push. East JR returned to replace Teeth Thomas who had another wedding to attend. These continual wedding have no doubt got Alys thinking its about time he had one of his own. Even Jenko hasn't attended as many this year, maybe something to do with the speed of the bowling on show.

A soft looking pitch looked like it might be tricky to bat on but having won the toss East decided Flopdock should bat, hopeful that the pitch would deteriorate as the match progressed. Despite losing Snorey early to a decent deliveryFlopdock made decent progress having got to 41 for one off 11 overs with little sign of what was to come. When Percy was undone by a full pitched delivery from swift opener Watts the wheels began to fall off. Reuben fresh off the back of a glorious 150 edged his first ball over slip for four but looked comfortable until he spooned one that stopped to mid off and Mex was soon trudging back too. Nose and Pidge stalled against some disciplined bowling as Kelvedon found the right lengths to make scoring difficult. After Podge got a life when the keeper dropped an edge behind from spinner Curtis, Nose had a wild hack and ballooned the ball to mid on and Flopdock were in real trouble. Wickets continued to tumble, first Donald was stumped and then Jacob played on and Flopdock were 70 for 7. A brief break for rain saw the pitch ease up a little and Podge and Jenko began a rebuilding exercise with Podge taking some more risks as overs ran out, eventually passing a really well constructed 50 before both he and Jenko fell in quick succession. JP and East avoided the duck as flopdock limped to 138 for 9 off 45 overs.

Talk at tea was this total gave Flopdock a chance but was probably 20 short of par. Unfortunately we never got going in reply. Too many four balls and struggling to find the right lengths meant we couldn't apply the necessary pressure. To force a victory we certainly needed to take any chances that came our way but when chances were created we didn't take them - missing 3 in one over, and in truth Kelvedon cruised home. Some notable mentions in the field for Jacob who kept well on a really difficult surface and a decent diving/falling grab at slip by East but little to get excited about. Even when we thought we had a chance - where the batsmen padded up, the ball flicked the pad and cannoned into the stumps (and then Jacob's helmet) the bails weren't dislodged and the umpire gave a not out.

The winbus to return next week and hoping that a difficult run in for Ipswich keeps us in the hunt.

Sombrero - Podge, excellent, patient innings gave us a chance - many felt it was better than Reubens knock the week before

SC Strawberry - Many to choose from but Snorey snuck home thanks to a 'Gooben' at mid on
