Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report
The Two-saders winbus rolled into Dunmow. With Jason called up to the Premier League side a debut was handed to young Oli "Gavin" Stace. A picturesque setting greeted the team after the long journey/overnight stay at Gatwick. A bright sunny day and a decent looking pitch with some short boundaries had the team hoping Ironfist could win the toss and secure a first innings bat. Needless to say Ironfist duly failed to deliver and after a solid walking football win for the old 'uns Copdock took the field.

immediately East the Uglier was into his stride dismissing Gallant in his first over. Jenkin also joined in with is first ball leaving Dunmow reeling at 0-2 off 3 overs. Rooney and Reed slowly began to rebuild but when East and Jenkin struck again in quick succession Dunmow looked in real trouble at 30 for 4. However as Philpotts East began to tire Reed began to sweep him to the leg side boundary and Dunmow captain Swanston also ventured out of the parade ring to deposit a couple of maximums into the legside. The rebuilding was a cause for concern, indeed Gravell was so nervous he had to leave the field to relieve himself. After a round singing Happy Birthday at drinks Ironfist turned to debutant Stace to try and make the break through and latterly East JR. Gavin bowled well, giving little away and runs were soon hard to come by, even Percy stopped one at cover!

In an effort to increase the scoring rate Reed ran out the captain and soon East JR had winkled out another with a plumb LBW having earlier been frustrated by a missed stumping by the keeper. With 10 overs to go Ironfist turned back to East Snr who was able to pick up some cheap wickets courtesy of safe hands in the deep from Chilean Wonderboy Reg and the fist shaking Jenkin. A decent bowling performance looked like only delivering 4 bowling pts as Dunmow entered the last over only 8 wickets down. Perhaps realising this would be unfair the non striker first stopped a drive back down the ground by kicking the ball to Nose who duly ran out his partner then was involved in another suicidal run out a few balls later, leaving Dunmow all out for 147.

Over a decent spread at tea talk was that 147 looked at least 50 light of par, though Flopdock were acutely aware that they'd stumbled many a time from positions such as these.

As Chokedock starting their response Reubs was in no mood to mess around. As often happens he mixed the usual sublime with the ridiculous and by the 5th over he had been dropped 3 times but was passed 30. The standard wobble set in, Gravell fell having experienced issues piercing the ring and Sharpe trotted back to the stables shortly after for 32. Clearly keen to banish any thoughts of the previous week, where we failed to play a shot, Percy got off to a flyer, twice depositing opening bowler Gallant for delicious legside maximums. With Kaarl keen to change Snorey back to Storey he also found the boundary with regularity, particularly severe on anything short from spinner Kesingland. Copdock were cantering towards victory and Percy closing in on a quick fire fifty until a stutter began. First Percival, having played some delightful drives and hefty hoicks, was snared at the second long off and then Kaarl Never-ending Storey became 11 yr old Pascoe's first ever senior wicket as he drove to cover. Things would get better for young Pascoe as he bounced out Nose who was looking for the pull but could do no more than loop into the leg side as he was beaten for pace. For those of us who have been at Flopdock for a few years things began to look nervy. Thomas point blank refused to bat, East JR was explained to Oli Stace "we've lost many times from here" and Jenkin was on the verge of tears before walking out to the crease. Thankfully Hollis had no such worries and coaxed Jenkin out of his shell and into a few glorious off side boundaries and soon the game was up, Flopdock winning by 5 wickets with over 20 overs remaining.

An dominate performance and 20 well deserved points. Easton up next and potential Percy vs Percy encounter. I'm backing the younger, nicer, more popular brother.

Sombrero - Gavin Stace on his debut for a well controlled, disciplined spell

SC Strawberry - Gravell - Poo Gate.
