Match report So to the big climax of the season for the U11 , Suffolk cup final versus Easton. On a lovely day and with a hard fast track Captain Dunning won the toss and chose to bat first.
The first pair of SJ and JJ batted very positively , hitting 6 boundaries, though one big swing too many by JJ saw him bowled, but a start of 30 was good. Will and Sam batted sensibly, but sadly both were out once each saw this pair yielded 14. The third pair of KJ and Toby had a day to forget with a flurry of wickets yielding just net 4 runs.., so at 12 overs on a belter we had only 54 in total, enter the skipper and Rory, who then showed the rest how to play positively but make good decisions, and run well between the wickets, the pair yielded a fab 45 in their 4 overs which was ultimately to be a game winner.
Easton started well,and after 3 overs had got to 18 and where well on track, but a series of wickets in the 4th/5th and 6 wickets, two of which were good run outs, set them back. JJ came on to bowl a truly outstanding spell of 3 overs for just 2 runs and 1 wicket. Rory was excellent behind the stumps and our fielding for once this year came to the party and was good. The last pair came in needing 67 and with cpt Dunning wisely setting the field deep the Easton innings finished on 228.
So Champions of Suffolk, well done to the boys, they are a good team who are still learning but no doubt we had the best u11 side in Suffolk in 2016.
