Match report
This was a match of almost identical innings and went right to the wire with an excellent allround Copdock team performance. Having won the toss Copdock asked F&CY to bat first and good opening bowling from Lucas Howard and Oscar Taylor and a couple of run outs saw the innings off to a slow start. F&CY's middle order steadied the innings and the final pair put on over 25 runs in the final four overs finishing on 279. Freddie Foyster ended up with 2 wickets.The teamwork of the Copdock fielders was excellent as they chased the ball to the boundary in pairs one fielder flicking the ball back for the other to return it, turning certain fours into singles. Early wickets in the Copdock innings meant a slow start but gradually the middle order batsmen found gaps in the field and with impressive running of quick singles the innings gained momentum. Ollie Van Slooten, in his first hard ball cricket match, didn't lose his wicket and ran well between the wickets. In the failing light the final pair of Copdock batsmen, Lucas Howard and Freddie Foyster, needed to score 27 runs in the last 4 overs. The match was settled off the final ball of the match when, with some of the F&CY fielders still on the boundary, Lucas paddled the ball down to deep fine to score the 1 run required for victory.
