Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost By 25 runs

Match report After defeating Mildenhall in the Suffolk Cup final, Copdock traveled down the A12 to Brentwood CC.

Captain William won the toss and bowled first on a bone dry pitch, Sam struck in the first over getting Deacon caught down low by Millions at mid-off. Paisley also had the most stone dead caught behind turned down. They even heard the edge down in Kent! Balsom batted well with Davey rotating the strike. Wides continued to be an issue with the bowling as the extra ball in the over was punished. Sam removed Davey, 12 runs after he should have been given out. Levy then joined Balsom and pushed the scoring onto 59-2 off 10 overs. Both of the batters retired as Lewis' leg-spin was introduced into the attack. The scoring rate dried up considerably before the batters began to attack in the final 4 overs. Runs flowed with ease, including some suspect wide calls but Copdock were on top with the final 10 balls going our way. Will Marston got a superb run out of Morris, as they went for a second run, Will threw the ball in once bounce to hit the stumps. James finished an excellent final over which included a wicket and only 5 runs.

Brentwood provided a lovely tea, Will and Frog got off to a flying start with 15 off the first 2 overs. Both were respectful of anything on the stumps but went after anything else. Will retired on 31 as the pair put on 68 for the first wicket but Frog fell soon after for 28. Brentwood then squeezed the field in to restrict scoring as Copdock went from 68-1 off 10 to 78-3 off 14. Varun looked to up the scoring rate but as wickets fell regularly, Copdock couldn't find the boundary often enough to keep up with the run rate, meaning the U13's fell 25 runs short.

A truly valiant effort by all and on any other day the result would have been reversed. The future of Copdock is very, very bright with this talented and ever-improving group of players.
