Match report EASTON EXTRACT REVENGE

Clearly smarting from their 158 drubbing earlier in the season, when they were all out in under 10 overs, Easton were intent on defeating a depleted Dragons side, featuring only three of the original team and including three U11's drafted in.

Captain Charlie Hollis lost the toss and we were put in to bat on a greenish wicket. Our openers Charlie Tweedy and Henry Williams started cautiously against a ball swinging away by about a foot, but began to build an impressive score, reaching a 50 run partnership in the seventh over, 75% of the runs coming from boundaries. Despite the loss of Henry's wicket on 21 and Charlie retiring on 30, steady progress continued with 100 reached in the thirteenth over with the loss of Shaanjeai's wicket (an impressive caught and bowled) on 28 (including two sixes and three fours). We were still on course for an impressive total until the sixteenth over, when on 121 we lost three wickets for no runs. The innings then petered out with 130 all out being reached in the nineteenth over, with the last four batters not scoring.

However, 130 was probably a defendable total, provided we limited the boundary scoring opportunities. Unfortunately this plan soon failed, with Easton's opening batters hitting the gaps with precision shots despite some accurate bowling and energetic fielding from our boys and their first three batsmen had to retire not out. Despite some rearguard action (two wickets from Ben Tweedy and a stunning outfield catch from brother Charlie), our meagre total was passed in the 15th over.

So congratulations to Easton and some hard lessons for Copdock. Still there's always next year!
