Match report Sharks lack bite in opening fixture!

Woolpit arrived at the Copdock Oval on a chilly but dry evening, won the toss and put the Sharks in to bat. A mixture of erratic running and regular wickets prevented Copdock from posting a competitive total until Charlie Holloway and Cameron Towers came to the crease. These Sharks veterans posted 41 as the last pair and gave the home side a creditable if below par 262 to bowl at.

Copdock bowled and fielded well, but the usual high amount of extras along with some strong hitting from Woolpit ensured that scores were level after 11 overs. Woolpit then eased ahead before Cameron Towers claimed 3 of their wickets in one over meaning that the Sharks could smell blood. Captain Tom License made an inspired decision to bring Towers back for the final over with Copdock requiring just 2 wickets to win the game. Cameron’s bowling was laser straight but he was unable to find a way through the Anderson and Panasaresque Woolpit rear-guard.

Scores may have looked close but it must be said that a well drilled Woolpit side deserved their victory and the Sharks will look ahead to Stowmarket on Tuesday.
