Match report
A welcome return to form for Copdock last week prompted a welcome return of the match reports this week (Ed. Outstanding reports now added !). Ethan's match run turning out to be like his run scoring (non-existent). Debutants in the team this week with Jacob Marston behind the stumps and Dr Tom Watson joining from Ipswich to add to our seam attack. Karl Storey also continued following his recent signing from Lowestoft.

The day began with an extreme display of cowardice from Ironfist. Clearly worried about further abuse from yet another lost toss and potential fielding in the blistering heat he sent East out to flick the coin. Ironfist has been tossing very poorly recently, something that can happen when you reach a certain age. Needless to say East returned with the required result and Flopdock were to bat on another good looking pitch. With Sharpe pulling the ladder up for the second week in a row Marston found himself out in the middle with Hoppy against the new ball.

Steady progress in the first 7 overs, a dreamy on drive and vicious pull for six from Hoppy the highlights, saw the score advance to 29 before things turned sour. First Adam was lured into a fiddle outside off stump (you'd have thought he would have learnt from his experiences with Ironfist that this is never a good idea) and then Jacob forgot he was running with someone three times his age and ended up nearly running three but actually only one counted. Keen to talk him through the error of his ways Karl kicked the next ball and was soon trudging back so that they could discuss in the hutch. Reg Hollis went soon after and JP briefly threatened to steady the ship before smashing one to the keeper to leave the 'chokers' perilously placed at 68 for 6. This soon became 7 as the Doc's debut ended early. As East sauntered to the crease to join Jenko there were more thoughts of an early tea than any success to come out of the match. No one had informed Jenko however. He interlaced fluent flicks of his legs and sumptuous cover drives and soon the score snuck past 3 figures. Eventually East joined in with the scoring too and the partnership eased past 100 courtesy of an East ramp off ex Suffolk bowler Geeves. By this time Jenko had flow past 50 and by the time he was dismissed in the penultimate over just shy of what would have been a deserved 100 the game was back on. Ironfist, still keen on his perennial duck back award, racked up another before East finished with a boundary off the last ball as Copdock ended with 193 for 9 off 45 overs.

Talk at tea was that Copdock had given themselves a target but were still below par and it would take a good bowling effort to get past the line. Ashwin and Dr Watson started off, Ash with a couple of Harmison like deliveries testing Marston behind the stumps and the Doc with some probing accurate lines. Eventually Bhatt Man honed in on his lines and got some swing going. A good grab from JP at a recently placed second gully got Flopdock on the board, then Ash soon picked up 2, 3 and 4 as the Brockerley reply began to mirror Copdocks first innings. Ash nearly picked up another 5 wicket haul thanks to a great effort behind the stumps from Marston but he couldn't quite hold on. As the partnership for the 6th wicket began to build Gunders turned to spin twins/batting heroes/all round athletes East and Jenkin. This time it was East who picked up the wickets. Once both 6 and 7th wickets fell in an over to good catches in the deep by Watson and the athletic Reg Hollis the game was all but up. East wrapped up the tail much to Jenkin's chagrin to finish with 5 wickets.

Not quite the thievery of Woodbridge but certainly a get out of jail moment. We waited for one win, now two come along at once. The winbus is back on the road, 3rd place is still ours and with the top two playing next week still a chance to make up some ground.

Awards:

Tommy Cooper Blooper : JP - showered too early, caught having to get the rope in, then poor technique led to an injury.
Brian Lara Tiara: Reg Hollis - Running athletic catch on the boundary effectively ended the game.
