Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 1 run

Match report
Following some midweek highway maintenance Ironfist was keen to get the Winbus back on the road.

A changed side, with Psycho otherwise engaged in body disposal and Gravell, Hollis, Meakin and Wooton out, saw returns for Jenko, Hopkins, Holland and Tavare Magnus.

In overcast conditions G-String won the toss and elected to bat. Sharpe and Sir Anthony began in challenging conditions against a steady opening attack who asked questions from both ends, following Wooton's extreme measures to avoid umpiring (making himself unavailable), Holland and Ironfist took the first stint. Disappointingly they both bailed out after only 9 overs catching East and Wright unawares. Run Out King Reubs and Adam equipped themselves well and got through the difficult first 10 overs looking increasingly comfortable. Just as they looked to increase the tempo both fell, Adam chipping to mid on and Reubs bowled through the gate by one that nipped back. JP and Jenko began the rebuilding, either side of a comical Davey dismissal as he somehow managed to loop a waist high full toss to the 'Inverted Davey'. It would take something special to wrestle the Tommy Cooper Blooper out of his hands.

At 126 for 3 off 31 we looked well set 200+, which on a another good pitch at the picturesque Oval, would appear to be about par. Unfortunately the next 14 overs did not go to plan. JP was bowled looking to work the ball to third man, Tavare Magnus followed soon after and suddenly the innings was limping along. Jenko's dismissal signalled the beginning of the end though there was time for two magnificent deliveries to account for East and Steve Gaukings. I'm not sure we will see better balls all year. Gauke's dismissal signalled the end of the Copdock effort in the 45th over for 160. In truth a poor last 15 overs had seen Woodbridge take control of the match and at tea the visitors were in the driving seat.

Better tea behaviour from Ironfist saw the visitors eat first, though as Gauke and Holland (chairman and president) had spent most of the afternoon hovering up the pizza it meant that there was none left for a disappointed Jenko. Jenko is, as we all know, particularly fond of a meat feast.

The Woodbridge innings began spritely. Ethan and Ironfist found a better rythym than last week but anything off line was punished on a flat deck and soon Woodbridge were 40 for 0 off 9 and on course to get over the line with relative ease. Gunders turned to the experienced, athletic spin twins East and Jenkin in an effort to halt the Woodbridge ride to the winning line. East quickly picked up the two openers, one well caught behind the stumps by Holland. As the visitors threatened to rebuild again Jenko picked up two more including the dangerous Ed Porker. At drinks though Woodbridge were still in control and a partnership for the 5th wicket was looking as if it would be decisive. Invigourated by the drinks break Copdock looked Sharper in the field. Particularly the Run Out King Reuben. East and Jenkin kept things tight but were unable to break through. At times the batsmen led charmed lives as the balls looped into gaps or through the hands of Tavare Magnus rather than to others.

Ironfist turned to TomaGauke who found a way through, courtesy of a Holland stumping. Looking to captialise Ironfist switched to Jenkin who produced a magnificent over to bring the game back to a much more even keel. First a 'Gravell like' East snaffle at short midwicket, then two bowled through the gates put the game back in the balance. Suddenly 12 were needed off the last two overs with only two wickets. A tight Gauke over looked on the cards until the penultimate ball was swept for 4 meaning 6 off the last over to win, 5 to tie. Ironfist had hoped to continue his tactic of bowling Jenko for 16 overs instead of the allowed 15 but this would not be allowed this week and as such he took the responsibility himself. Two swings and and then a scrambled 1 single meant 5 needed off three balls but the batsmen facing was the other Porker who was well set. He went for the win off the next ball sending the ball high and long towards the long off boundary. Luckily the increasingly lythe and athletic East was underneath to pouch in front of the Woodbridge team. Gunders finished things off with the next two balls and ultimately Copdock burgled a victory by one run, having not looked, at any point, likely to do so.

The Winbus is back up and running, looking forward to next weekend. No wait, Ironfist has got us playing on Bank Holiday Monday again.

Brian Lara Tiara - despite the wishes of the crowd (who were heard to exclaim 'That's the Brian Lara Tiara won right there' as East pouched at Long Off) it went to Jenko for cleaning up the tail with 5 wickets.

Tommy Cooper Blooper - Tavare Magnus. Nearly as poor as East's last weekend. Awful drop, and had to be to see off Davey's dismissal.
