Another week and another win for the Copdock U18 team - this time however things did not quite go according to plan.
In confident mood, Copdock won the toss and elected to bat first on a poor pitch at Ransomes. However tight bowling and excellent fielding saw a precession of Copdock batters get in and then get out without really helping to move the score along significantly.
Step up Archie Wilkinson who appeared the only player in the Copdock side to truly understand the wicket and how to play an innings on it. With support from Dagan Whitehead they moved the score on past 100 before Dagan got out. On this occasion the the tail failed to wag. A final score of 110 all out (with 2 overs left to bat) is probably the first time these Copdock lads have really failed to perform as a batting unit in the past couple of years.
In reply DWP had 4 or 5 pretty decent batters who took them very close indeed to winning. But excellent bowling by Oli Davies (2-7) and then Oli Williams (1-13) and in particular Charlie Lewis (2-19) at the death, and under real pressure, swung the match Copdock's way in the final over when 12 runs were required. In the end Copdock U18s won by just 4 runs to maintain their amazing unbeaten run in this league and cup competition.
