Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v Yoxford on Sat 02 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Return of the Nel !

Another comfortable win for Copdock against a side we lost to earlier in the season with Ady Nel making his first appearance of the season for the club with devastating effect.

On another warm day at Copdock (despite dodgy weather forecasts earlier in the week) Gunder once again lost the toss and Yoxford captain Percival decided to make first use of the flat looking Copdock track. To be fair it didn't just look flat it was flat ( the same track where nearly 600 hundred EAPL runs had been scored the previous week).

The young nippy opening bowling attack of Harry Cook and Ashwin the Bhattman soon made early inroads into the Yoxford innings, Harry having Mears caught by Nelly at 2nd slip and Marston being bowled by a swinging Ashwin yorker. Despite a brief counter attack by Hunter Jones he was soon undone by the Bhatt full toss with Reuben taking a Sharpe catch at square leg (did you see what I did there ? Oh well). Bailey departed soon after trying to smash Corporal Kyangungu into the Old London Road and he was safely caught by Ethan at short leg !
Clive and Nelly had replaced the opening pair and all the Yoxford batsman found the spin twins difficult to score off. Wickets continued to tumble with only Percival showing any meaningful resistance. Ashwin returned to help finish off the tail and on the stroke of 45 overs the final wicket was taken. After Dutch caught Keetch on a waist high no ball he managed to readjust and throw down the stumps as a single was attempted. An excellent bowling effort by all the Copdock bowlers.

At tea Yoxford had finished on a somewhat under par 130 and Copdock were confident that they could overhaul this total.
After the loss of an early wicket with Reuben getting bowled the fun started ! Nelly went into overdrive, batting in his own inimitable style. After a reasonably patient opening he opened up smashing boundary after boundary including several enormous maximums, really making a mess of the opposition bowling figures ! Clive must have been enjoying it so much he even volunteered to do a spell of umpiring !
Despite the loss of Ricey and then Nelly with the match all but won the victory was finished off with a lovely straight drive for four by Ethan in the 20th over!
So a nice early finish and welcome 20 point victory. Nelly can come again !
