Copdock Phoenix Team:
Edward Hughes, Oscar Bond (+), George Eaton, Matt Treacy, Angus Bissett, George Ault, Alex Bryanton, Jack Reddington, Will Oxbrow, Charlie Lewis (Capt) and Kieran Turner.

Copdock Phoenix held their nerve in a tense last over to secure a first match of the season win at Woolpit. Defending 102, a total set up by a steady opening partnership of Edward Hughes (retired not out 30) and Oscar Bond 22, the early overs of Woolpit’s response were looking worrying.

The Extra’s column kept piling up and then suddenly a bowling change brought about a change of fortune as both openers succumbed to Will Oxbrow and Charlie Lewis. Alex Bryanton also cashed in on a nervy start by Woolpit’s No3.
Throughout the middle overs Woolpit’s No4 dominated to once again turn the match towards the home side. With a fair few overs to go and lots of batting still to come, the tide was clearly in Woolpit’s favour.

An inspired fight-back by the Copdock fielders saw three Woolpit batsmen fall to run-outs leaving the impressive No 4 Turner stranded with little batting left to work with. Soon after and in the last over of the match, Turner retired on 30 not out.

Needing 9 runs off the final over and in fading light, the match went right down to the last ball – Woolpit needing a six to win. Charlie Lewis held his nerve, pitched the ball right up and although the batsman let fly he failed to connect only managing to run two.

Man of the Match could have gone to a number of players, but the coaches decided that Oscar Bond deserved the accolade for his work with the bat and some great leadership behind the stumps.

Matt Treacy scored 12 on debut, Alex Bryanton finished with bowling figures of 4-0-6-2 and Charlie Lewis 4-1-8-1.
