Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 15 runs

Match report An exciting match that swung one way then the other, with Melton finally triumphing by 15 runs, neatly tying up with the extra 15 runs they got from taking three more wickets.

Batting first, despite batting positively, with greatly improved calling and running between the stumps, Copdock struggled to find many boundaries and at times only accumulated runs at a glacial pace, whilst still losing wickets with regularity. As typical for the Super 8 format, two thirds of the runs came off the final 5 overs, with the return of the opening batsman for their second stint. Captain Gabriel ended up as our top scorer with 29 runs not out off 25 balls.

In the field, Copdock played well as a team: pleasing for the coach to see what we had worked on the Sunday before being put into practice and also making the captains job much more straightforward. Top fielding award goes to Angus, not for any particular moment of great skill, but for his continued concentration throughout the innings, always returning to his fielding position, moving in, and then either stopping the ball or backing up when required, whilst all the time encouraging his teammates. The bowling was generally very good at times, with 2 wickets each for Ralph and Ibrahim, but overall still too inconsistent: the number of wides being crucial in the end.

Melton finally overtook the Copdock score in the 17th over and despite a few close wicket attempts (including an attempted run-out throw that caught wicketkeeper Alex square in the back - ouch), their returning batsmen coolly played it out for the win.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the match: we are improving with every match and really playing as a team, but there is still plenty to work on in the rest of the season.
