Match report A good win for the Eagles, achieved through some great teamwork, but definitely a match of two halves.

Batting first, we managed a total of 83 runs for 6 wickets, but with only 32 runs coming off the bat (compared to 61 for Walsham in their innings), this total was only reached with some extremely positive calling and running between the wickets (just one run-out where the partner's call wasn't committed to), enabling us to take extra runs off wides, and taking a dozen byes out of virtually nothing. Our players appeared to struggle with the pitch much of the time, with the ball holding up a bit and then playing through their shots too early so they couldn't adjust for any uneven bounce or late movement. I'm sure that with more experience of playing on different types of wicket, the players will learn to trust their abilities more and let the ball come to them.

So with only a lead of 53 to defend (Walsham starting on 30 from their 6 wickets), well marshalled by captain Finley, Copdock set to work in the field. The bowling was excellent, with both the pace and accuracy of Joseph (splitting a bail in the process) and the skid of Thomas taking four wickets each, ably backed up by Josh, Finley and Oliver (now bowling with a straight arm at last!) with a wicket apiece and the Gregg brothers both now bowling with an increased proportion of nice straight balls. Our work in the field was also excellent, with positioning adjusted by Finley in a timely manner and holding the ball when the right option. I only recall perhaps one overthrow and one missed ball at fine third man (a critical fielding position in U11 Super 8's) when the fielder had succumbed to the temptation of creeping in too far in from the boundary. Special mention for Wilf for agreeing to take the (borrowed and rather oversized) keeping gloves, thereby missing out on the wicket fest but in turn undoubtedly saving us from a much higher Walsham run total with his excellent stopping behind the stumps.

The match was basically won through weight of wickets taken, boosting our total score to 138. If we start trusting our batting more, I see this winning streak lasting to the end of the season.

PS - As the match was scored on the Play-Cricket app, whilst I'm happy with the total score and the bowling figures, I wouldn't trust our individual batting scores, as clearly some of the batters have got mixed up at some point.
