Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Lions U11 v Copdock Challengers on Tue 14 Aug 2018 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won By 7 Runs

Match report A very competitive inter-Copdock match, played in great spirit between two teams of nine, with the outcome in the balance until the very end.

Following the £5M transfer of Shaanjeai Tharaneetharan from the Lions to the Challengers (to be paid later, in Comet vouchers), in an attempt to even the teams, the Challengers took the field whilst the Lions set about steadily built their innings. With more than run a ball innings from Arthur Nath, Harry Charlton, James Fishenden and Aman Khan (with James' batting particularly impressive, hitting six fours), the total climbed steadily at a rate of 10 an over. However, the Challengers persevered and wickets started to fall at regular intervals, with more thoughtful bowling (Ishaan Rakesh the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 15 off his two overs) and some very sharp fielding (including a superb direct run-out pick and throw from Alfie Carr). The Lions finished their innings on 149 runs after their 16 overs, with the Challengers already on 21 from their 7 wickets, leaving a target of just over 8 an over (more if wickets fell).

The Challengers started very brightly, scoring at 12 an over, helped by some wayward bowling from the Lions, with Yug Sajnani giving an exhibition of how to bat in Super 8's, scoring 24 off 7 balls, before falling to a run-out after a calling mix-up. At one point the required run-rate was down to 4 an over. However, the Lions fought back with a greatly improved bowling performance in the second half of the innings (96 runs coming off the first 8 overs and only 43 runs off the final 8 overs), with wickets also being taken. A fall of wicket in the last over brought captain Shaanjeai back to the non-striker's end with 8 runs required off the last 4 balls. Two runs were taken off the next ball, leaving a target of six off three, with a further single bringing Shaanjeai to the crease with five required to win off the last two balls. The captain was then clean bowled by the young Harry Nath, who had been drafted in at the last minute and finishing on the best bowling figures of 2 for 7 off his two overs, to effectively win the match for the Lions.

A great evening's cricket to close the season, showing what can be achieved, when you back yourselves to win and just how far many of the boys have progressed this season.
