Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Cardinals U11 v Melton on Tue 15 May 2018 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won By 61 runs

Match report On a very hot and sunny evening, at Copdock Cricket Club, the Copdock Cardinals won the toss and decided to bat.

The Cardinals lost their Captain, Lucas Howard early for 1, but then Louis Cannon and Jevon Maynard both batted well and put on 60 for the second wicket, before Louis Cannon retired on 30 and Jevon retired on 31, Connor Holdcroft, Archie Magnus and Louis Hembry then all contributed well, before Connor was unlucky to be given out LBW for 12, Louis Hembry was bowled for 11 and Archie Magnus retired on 12. Isaac Humberstone was then bowled for 4 and Henry Clark was caught and bowled for 5, Ptolemy Van Den Brink-Budgen finished 6 not out and Aashay Deole 9 not out, which helped the Cardinals finish their innings on 162 for 5 off their 18 overs.

When Melton batted, the Cardinal bowlers took control from the start, with some good bowling in particular from Aashay who took 2 wickets for 9 runs in his 2 overs, Lucas who bowled his two overs for just 2 runs, Aman Khan who took 2 wickets for 18 runs in his 2 overs, Louis Hembry who took 2 wickets for 13 runs in his 2 overs and Connor who took 1 wicket for 5 runs in his 1 over, but the pick of the bowlers was Isaac who took 1 wicket for 8 runs in his 3 overs and bowled good lines and lengths at a good pace, with the ball swinging too.

There was some good fielding by all, with Jevon keeping wicket well, and two very good catches, one each from Henry and Archie, the ground fielding was generally good too, but some areas for improvement as well.

At the end of Melton’s 18 overs the Cardinals had restricted them to 101 for 8, meaning the Cardinals won by 61 runs.

So a good performance from the Cardinals, and whilst overall the players felt it was not their best team performance, and hence still lots to work on and improve, it was still a convincing win, with lots of good individual performances.

Thank you to both Lucas’s dad, Jerry for scoring, and to Louis Hembry’s dad, Quinton for umpiring too.

Man of the match goes to Jevon Maynard for his excellent batting, closely followed by Isaac for his impressive bowling.
