Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v East Bergholt on Sat 12 May 2018 at 1pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report The "Gents of Copdock" welcomed East Bergholt to the Copdock Oval this week, as well as some returning faces in the shape of Bell, Knights, Wheaton, Mann, Pope and a last minute call up to the wiles of Norfolk for Kaarl meant Nick Meakin stepping up to the plate. The weather was is stark contrast to the sunny disposition of the Flopdock X1 and a delay to the start meant a 33 over per side affair. Wining the toss again, East inserted Bergholt, who were quickly on the front foot. Journeyman Robb tucking in to anything lose and the rate quickly up to 9 an over before Leggett induced a drive to Mann at mid-on. The wicket however did little to stem the flow of runs, though the introduction of the (round) Belly did see two further wickets leaving East Bergholt at 97 for 3 of 14 overs. Sam and Henry Foster then formed a strong partnership, at first manouvering East then beginning to tuck into Gauke, it also saw Ironfist ensure he would capture the Strawberry with a Sharpe-like effort at long-off. Gauke did manage to dismiss both Fosters, Sam courtesy of an outstanding one handed Pope snaffle. This got Pope the ball for an over, which was less impressive.
Despite Hugh's proclamation that it was "an 8's day" the total of 234 for 7 off 33 overs looked imposing.
The Flopdock response saw captain East promote Dan Leggett to open, it was to prove a masterstroke. After a couple of watchful overs, both Mann and Lego were incredible. Mixing patient singles and scampering with glorious boundaries. Busy in particular showed his class in one over which saw an imperious Gower-esque cover drive, a bludgeoned pull shot and a crashing square cut. Not to be outdone, Leggy put his foot on the accelerator, particularly severe on anything short. Leggy was soon pushing ahead with some super flicks through the leg side and crunching shots square on the offside. By the time the rain increased 163 runs had been amassed off just 24 overs and it was the East Bergholt team who was happy to leave the field. Disappointingly the rain robbed Leggy of what would have been a great hundred, though did keep the Mann average over 200.
