Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Cardinals U11 v IES on Wed 19 Jul 2017 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 40 runs

Match report Match Report.

On a cloudy Thursday evening, at Copdock cricket club, the Copdock Cardinals lost the toss and were put into bat.
Copdock started their innings very well, with both the opening batsmen, Lucas Howard, 25, retired, and Jevon Maynard 25 retired, putting on a 50 partnership, in the first 7 overs, then the momentum was kept going by Dylan Patel who also retired for 25, and despite the loss of Archie Magnus, the only wicket that the Cardinals ended up losing during their innings, some further good batting by Hugo Lloyd retired 25, and by Freddie Foyster 12 not out and James Fishenden 9 not out, meant the Cardinals reached an impressive 155 for 1 at the end of their 20 overs.
When IES batted, their opening batsmen set off really well, scoring 60 for 0 off the first 6 overs, with both openers retiring on 28 and 25 respectively, but then some very accurate bowling by Fishenden 0-11 in his 3 overs, skipper Howard 0-8 in his 3 overs and Magnus 0-14 in his 3 overs, meant the Cardinals took back control and restricted IES to just 55 runs off the last 14 overs, with Henry Clark taking the only wicket to fall and finishing with figures of 1-13 in his three overs and some good bowling also from Isaac Humberstone 0-10 in his two overs, Lloyd 0-9 in his two overs and Harrison Strand 0-7 in his one over and then Thomas King bowled the last over off the match and only went for 5 runs and all this good bowling helped the Cardinals take back control with the ball.
So in the end IES finished on 115-1 after their 20 overs, meaning the Cardinals won by 40 runs.
A very good overall team performance from the Cardinals, especially with the bat, but with some work and reflection needed by the bowlers and the fielders following the first 6 overs with the ball, but in the end a good recovery in the remaining overs to win the game comfortably in the end, on what was a very good batting pitch.
Lucas Howard takes the Cardinals man of the match performance, for his strong all round display firstly with the bat and then with the ball by helping to restrict IES after their flying start with his 3 very accurate overs.
