Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v Lakenheath on Sat 09 Sep 2017 at 12.30pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 102 runs

Match report With last weeks rain all but confirming Ipswich's promotion and condemning the Twosader's to another season in Div 2 meant there was little riding on this weeks encounter with Lakenheath but the Twosader's remained keen to keep up winning ways. A patched up side thanks to some absentees, Jenko's late memory fart and brave soul Reuben battling against all odds to turn up, albeit with no scorebook and a 'broken thumb'.

A prickly encounter in the reverse fixture had seen Flopdock make a meal of it before getting over the line it typical Copdock fashion. On this occasion the visitors won the toss and elected to field. Eventually the remainder of the Lakenheath team arrived and the match could begin. The innings started with Reuben facing a suspect action and Bailey appearing to get a slice of fortune of his first ball surviving a passionate plea for a caught behind before finding his rhythm. Reuben was at his mecurial best. Switching between fist bumps and anguished wringing of his hands depending on whether his wild swish went to the boundary or the fielder. Having rattled along to 68 off 12 Reuben was caught on the boundary and Harry also fell soon after. Felix and Nose, in what could well be his last ever innings at the Oval - having declared on social media his desire to hang up his boots at the end of the year, set about rebuilding. Felix edged past his previous seasons best of 4 off only his 28th ball of the innings. Meanwhile Nose was as fluent the torrents of abuse he usually unfurls at opposition batsmen. Regularly finding the cover boundary and punishing some loose stuff. Felix found some fluency too and it was a surprise when he eventually fell, lapping a waist high pie to mid-wicket. Thomas came and went quickly with a thick edge to the keeper and soon the normal service was resumed as the remaining batsmen kept up a continuous stream of falling wickets, amongst them Nose for 67. JP was the last man standing amassing a Copdock career best 10 including his first ever Copdock boundary.

The talk over tea was that 223 was going to be far too many for Lakenheath given their batting display in the reverse fixture but that standards still needed to be high especially with the rain in the air. When the batting side were eventually coaxed out of the hutch, encouraged by captain East, Nose and JP took the new ball for Copdock. Both soon had a wicket a piece and Nose nearly had some more as he either went past or found (depending on who you ask) the outside edge of Lakenheath's opening Palmer's bat. After the second passionate plea was rejected, perhaps looking to evoke comparisons with Michael Holding rather than the usual comparisons with Nathan Philpott, Nose inexplicably kicked down the stumps at the bowlers end and quite rightly got a ticking off. Nose soon got his revenge dismissing both Palmer and the Chief leaving Lakenheath reeling at 47 for 5.

As Nose and JP were replaced by Ironfist and East JR Lakenheath continued to stumble. Ironfist tried to encourage the new batsmen to come out of the scorebox by serving up some tasty looking treats but with the rain falling he was replaced by Scarf-ace. Despite the efforts of Harry who point blank refused to catch one at cover, East JR soon mopped up the tail as Lakenheath were dismissed for just 121.
